EUPopLink Call for Papers (ESRA & IPSA Conferences)

By elnes , 13 October, 2026
EUPopLink

The COST Action EUPopLink - Linking Euroscepticism and Populism: Causes and Consequences (CA23102) has secured presence in the following two events:

  • ESRA Conference (19-23 July 2027, Paris, France) - EUPopLink will organise a multi-panel session entitled “Unpacking the Populism-Euroscepticism Nexus: Empirical Findings and Methodology from COST Action EUPopLink (CA23102)”, primarily focusing on research associated with WG2 and WG3. The session will accommodate several panels, allowing for a broader range of paper presentations.
  • IPSA Conference (24-28 July 2027, Rome, Italy) - EUPopLink will organise a single panel entitled “Linking Populism and Euroscepticism”, primarily featuring research linked to WG1-WG4. As only one panel is available, the number of papers that can be selected will be more limited than at ESRA.

Applicants may submit a proposal to EUPopLink for only one of the two conferences and must clearly indicate their preferred conference. Selected participants will also be expected to attend EUPopLink meetings organised alongside the conferences.

Priority areas for ESRA

Priority will be given to papers drawing on data collected through the EUPopLink surveys, as well as papers using harmonised data developed within EUPopLink, where available. Researchers interested in using EUPopLink survey data may request access to the data collected in their country, provided that a sufficient number of responses has been obtained to support meaningful analysis and that the relevant data are available for research use.

Particular consideration will be given to papers examining congruence between citizens and experts, especially contributions that make use of both components of the EUPopLink data collection and investigate the extent to which citizens’ attitudes correspond to expert assessments across issues related to populism and Euroscepticism.

Priority areas for IPSA

Priority will be given to comparative papers that build on and extend research conducted across EUPopLink Working Groups WG1-WG4.

Selection considerations

In selecting proposals, priority will be given to:

  • Papers using EUPopLink data, particularly those combining data from both the citizen and expert surveys and addressing questions of citizen–expert congruence.
  • Applicants who have actively contributed to the implementation of EUPopLink activities, including:
    • implementation and/or translation of the EUPopLink Survey;
    • national survey dissemination activities;
    • harmonisation activities;
    • identification and mapping of experts for the EUPopLink Expert Survey.

Participation and funding

Selected participants will be expected to take part in the relevant conference and associated EUPopLink meetings. Reimbursement of eligible expenses will be subject to applicable COST rules and the relevant approval and financial-claim procedures.

Conference registration fees are to be paid by applicants. Eligible Young Researchers and Innovators (YRIs) and researchers from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs) may apply for a grant to help cover registration fees, subject to the applicable grant conditions.

Submission

Interested researchers should submit:

  • Title of the proposed paper
  • Abstract
  • Authors and affiliations
  • Preferred conference: ESRA or IPSA
  • A brief indication of whether the paper intends to use EUPopLink data and, where relevant, which country/countries
  • A brief indication of the applicant’s previous contribution to EUPopLink activities

Each applicant should submit a proposal for only one of the two conferences.

The final selection of papers will aim to ensure strong scientific quality, close alignment with the objectives of EUPopLink, and effective use of the data and collaborative work developed within the Action.

Submission deadline: October 26, 2026

Submission address: eupoplink@polsci.auth.gr

For questions, please feel free to contact the EUPopLink Scientific Secretaries (eupoplink@polsci.auth.gr).
